Salary: $150-$160k annually plus bonus and benefits. 

Total targeted compensation = approx. $200k annually

We are seeking an experienced VP of Finance & Operations to join us in this mission, with a focus on developing and implementing the Financial and Operations strategies of Green Circle Ideas. As a member of the Executive team, the VP of Finance & Operations will be an advisor to other departmental Senior Leaders, evaluating and assisting them with their financial plans and economic modeling. The VP of Finance & Operations will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, in conjunction with the CEO and COO, while at the same time directly leading the Finance and Operations functions of the organization.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the VP of Finance & Operations will play a critical role in developing and implementing the Financial and Operations strategies of Green Circle Ideas. As a member of the Executive team, the VP of Finance & Operations will be an advisor to other departmental Senior Leaders, evaluating and assisting them with their financial plans and economic modeling. The VP of Finance & Operations will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, in conjunction with the CEO and COO, while at the same time directly  leading the Finance and Operations functions of the organization. 

The VP of Finance & Operations will be responsible for contributing to the successful operation of Green Circle Ideas and providing regular reports on the organization’s progress to both the CEO and COO. As a member of the Executive Team, the VP of Finance & Operations shall participate in the development of Green Circle Ideas’ long-term strategic planning, priorities and objectives. 

The VP of Finance & Operations will be responsible for ensuring organizational effectiveness, by providing leadership for the organization’s Finance & Operations functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Finance 

  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, mass salary updates, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry 
  • Working with the Controller, create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning, and conservation of assets 
  • Approve and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and management information systems for the company 
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements 
  • Work with the Controller on preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports 
  • Collaborating with the Controller, ensure development and implementation of finance, accounting, billing and auditing procedures; establishment of internal control safeguards; records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards 
  • Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems 
  • Support the Controller as required in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance required to maintain business 
  • Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders 
  • Establish and implement long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. Working with the Controller to develop short-term goals and implementation 
  • Assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and Green Circle Salons’s long-term strategy 
  • With CEO and COO, set corporate gross margin target benchmarks to enable creation of product pricing strategies. 
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the COO and CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations 
  • Engage the Executive Team around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery 
  • Lead the Annual Corporate Strategic Planning process and support the Controller in leading the development of d the GCS Annual Operating plan. 
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning in alignment with Green Circle Salons’s strategic plan 
  • Oversee cash flow, forecasting and reporting 
  • Optimize the handling of banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions 
  • Oversee budgeting, monitor progress and lead financial metrics reporting 
  • Oversee monthly presentation of financial results by the Controller to the Leadership and Executive Teams. Present approved statements to the Board of Directors along with the Controller 
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees when required 
  • Represent the company externally with government agencies and funding agencies 
  • Involved in all strategic planning/analyses regarding investment opportunities aligned with expanding the business and increasing the value of the business 

Operations 

  • Assume overall responsibility for the Operations aspects of the Canadian and U.S. facilities 
  • Set the Operations strategy aligned with the long term GCS Vision, Mission and strategy 
  • Provide vision and leadership that encourage growth and safeguard the Operational assets of the company 
  • Demonstrate and encourage teamwork and cooperation within the Operations function 
  • Ensure the department complies with all company and government regulations regarding employees, and ensures a safe work environment 
  • Work with senior management to establish annual operating and capital budgets
  • Report on Operations performance against plan and performance against key KPI on an ongoing basis 
  • Guide Operations to improve bottom line performance by examining the alternatives such as vendors, machineries, flow and processes 
  • Improve operational systems, processes and policies in support of the department’s contribution to the GCS Vision and Mission 
  • Understand the recycling industry and its trends in order to identify, create and implement appropriate new Operations strategies 
  • Identify capital asset acquisition opportunities and lead ROI financial modeling to support investment decisions 
  • Provide support to any number of projects in other departments 
  • Assist in the establishment and compliance of operational units’ short-term and long-term goals with overall corporate objectives 
  • Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through managers to ensure a cohesive operational unit 
  • Provide advice, guidance, and direction to managers regarding their professional development 
  • Coordinate with the Operations team to resolve operating issues 
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the operational unit, company, or as directed by the CEO or COO 

 

Key Qualifications 

  • Experience in strategic planning and execution 
  • Knowledge of contracts, negotiation, and change management 
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles 
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems 
  • Knowledge of Canadian provincial (Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia), American State (Illinois, Washington, Delaware), federal (Canadian and US) financial regulations 
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections 
  • Ability to lead, coach and motivate teams. 
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management 
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy 
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability 
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude 
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor 
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills 
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies 
  • High level of proficiency with Quickbooks, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace 
  • Works well under pressure and makes deadlines 
  • Works effectively in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment, and is able to direct and work in harmony with a diverse group of highly motivated and capable individuals 
  • Previous Operations Department responsibility is an asset 
  • Must have a commitment to the Vision, Mission and Core Values of Green Circle Salons 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • University Degree in Finance or Accounting 
  • MBA, HBA or Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting preferred 
  • 15 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position
  • CA or CMA preferred, with at least 5 years in management
